This is my first blog post. I reserved some of the day to write the code of my website, prepare the visuals and mechanics, and write some of the presentation content.
The site is still not online. There are a few placeholders that I need to replace, and some code that I need to refine. I also want to improve the colors, and include some visual niceness, such as shadows and transitions. But, I’ll leave it for later. Right now, I want to get some words going.
I tried to make a website many times before, but I was never really pleased with the results. Wordpress is too complicated, and Node-based server-side-rendering code is error-prone. I wanted something that I could quickly create with the simplest text editor, and make available online.
Luckily, I had a lot of experience with HTML and CSS, and even some JavaScript. In the past, I used a lot of XML markup to maintain my files. I had a markup of my own for personal notes, and I also used Docbook to generate adequate EPUBs and PDFs. Nowadays, I use AsciiDoc as my main document markup language, but the knowledge of XML is never wasted. I use it to write HTML and create a decent-looking, functional website.
I’m still not sure where I will publish this page. I’ll probably make it available on GitHub Pages. Maybe, I won’t even publish this specific blog entry. It’s more like a test and placeholder.
I hope this website is entertaining and useful for you. I’m planning to write a new blog entry every week or so. But, lately, I’ve been so busy that I don’t know if I’ll have time to do it so frequently. At least, this is not social media, and I’m not punished for having a life.
